Our Pedagogy

A pedagogical standard, flipped

We take science to where children are, not the other way around. The shift is subtle but vitally important; in our lessons, traditional, theory-first science learning is swapped for exciting, interactive science play.

We call it the hands-on, heads-on, hearts-on approach.

Why Early Science Education is Important - Jenni Vartiainen

STEAM Introduction: Meet the Characters

In the fantasy world of Supraland, STEAM skills live in perfect harmony. Here are the characters that help your little scientists start their journeys as critical thinkers.

A child, accompanied by Kelvin, looking into a bottle surprised

Science – from chemical reactions to measurements and foggy goggles – is Kelvin’s forte.

A child, accompanied by Mrs. Noblegas, using a pipette into a dish

Get started with computational thinking and imaginative machine design with Mrs Noblegas, Supraland’s bossy but beloved head teacher.

A child, accompanied by Hoseli the Robot, wearing goggles looking at a potato connected to a battery

Learn about electricity with our easily short-circuited robot, Hoseli.

A child, accompanied by Esther, dropping a solution into a colorful substance

Esther the artistic scientist specializes increative solutions (and color hurricanes).

A child, accompanied by Pi, building a structure out of toothpicks

Shapes, strong structures, and all things accurateare Pi’s specialty.

Only through imagination can we see beyond what we know.

All abstract understanding is built on imagination. On this notion – and over five years of rigorous research with the University of Helsinki – we built a playful STEAM education model that helps children as young as three start their journeys to become critical thinkers.

In our pedagogy, teachable moments are introduced through storytelling and dramatic play. Basically, our little scientists will learn by doing what is natural to them – stepping into imaginary science scenarios and experimenting hands-on.
